I am etc. to acknowledge

the receipt of your letter of the

28 th April about the appointment

of a Commandant of the Hong Kong

Volunteer Defence Corps and to

request you to inform the Army Council

that the figure of £1,250 for the

salary of the appointment may be

regarded as definite. This sum

should be regarded as being made up of

pay at the rate of £1,100 a year,

plus £150 a year command pay.

2. With regard to paragraph 4

of your letter, the Governor of Hong

Kong has now decided to make provision

in the 1939 Estimates for the salaries

of
